Jill Cooper's gallery

I studied at Hornsey College of Art where I obtained my teaching diploma.

Special studies in textile design, weaving and embroidery have stimulated my interest in using fabrics in a painterly fashion. Silks, chiffons and cotton are the main materials chosen and use is made of fine cotton thread to add line and vigour to my work. Each tiny piece of fabric is sewn on individually with invisible stitches and no other medium or glue is used.

My favourite range of subject matter is varied with figure work a particular favourite. I am fascinated in the interaction within groups of people and my interest in music has been an inspiration for my pictures of jazz players.

My trips around the world are also a source of inspiration particularly following visits to Venice and Scotland.

I am a member of the Oxford Art Society and have exhibited widely in the area and also in my own studio during the Oxford Artweeks.

I am happy to take commissions and can be contacted below.
